Pleasant Winter Pastime

I love to glide on the smooth skiing slopes

The sensation of sliding through the snow

The golden sun will come out soon I hope

The shadows are replaced by a great glow

The warming heat has beat the awful cold

The soaring soft blue sky is very clear

Those metal poles for hours I have to hold

My stomach growls I know lunch time is near

My goggles they protect me from the sun

The sparkling solar rays bounce off the white

We race down the vast lofty slopes so fun

I hit a great jump and am taking flight

So then back home in the big bus we drive

A long drive then the buses they arrive

A simple gesture

Impact

Make everyone’s heads turn

Like a red Ferrari

Driving by a lonely café

A simple gesture

Can shake up old norms

Like a sleepy old man

Who is shaken awake by his grandson

Many years ago

Deep in the murky

slimy water of

The Holocaust

Anne Frank said:

“How wonderful it is

that nobody need wait a single moment

before starting to improve the world”

This statement

Rings true today

Not like a jarring school bell

But like a catchy tune

And will ring true

Forever

And a diary

With an endless shimmering

Waterfall of optimistic

thoughts

Turned a small Jewish girl

Who dreamed of becoming a writer

Into a catalyst

Of hope

For future generations

Sometimes

To turn us into

Inspirations

Oskar Schindler from an

Avarice

Business man

To a

Savior

For thousands of Jews

Sometimes

We forget

What we have

The power

To accomplish

Against all odds

The Kraus’

A wealthy Jewish family

From Philadelphia

Traveled deep into Nazi Europe and

Saved 50 children from Vienna

The Holocaust

Reminded the Kraus’

Of what their hearts

Were capable of

These people

Made us realize

What we have done

To

Each other

But more importantly

What we can do

For

Each other

Even

In the face of adversity

Especially

In the face of adversity

We can all make a difference
